On Saturday, November 18, the JROTC Green Knights VEX robotics team participated in the DelMarva Kick Off. This tournament, being the first of this year’s season, was a great learning opportunity for our team!
In between taking photos, I was able to ask team members a couple of quick questions about the tournament, and what it’s all about! Here’s what they had to say:
What’s the overall goal of this competition specifically, for the team?
Gabriel Hernandez: The goal here overall is to learn from each other, and get inspiration on how we can improve, you know?
Can you tell me a little bit about the process behind building a robot?
Carter Melvin: We have to think about what what we’re building is, what it has to do and how it has to do that.
Drew Holmes: And then sometimes, when we have a plan, it..
Carter Melvin: Falls apart.
Drew Holmes: Yeah, sometimes; and, a lot of the times we can’t follow through on the plan perfectly. So we have to make a lot of adjustments, but that’s the process of learning and improving, and part of making a really good robot.
At the end of the day, we placed 18th out of 20 in the ranking at the competition. Huge thanks to the JROTC Green Knights robotics team for letting me take pictures, and humoring my on-the-spot interviews!
