The “One Acts” are a series of student-directed and student-written shows that will take place on Friday, January 12th, and Saturday, January 13th, 2024. There are five different shows this year, each directed by different students!
The first One Act is “Promise Me You’ll Never Rob Again”, written and directed by Abby Davis, who is a junior at Mount. This show is about two robbers who break into a young lady’s house, and throughout the show, we realize that these two men are “not the brightest”, in the words of Abby. There are many miscommunications between the characters, leading to hilarious moments for the audience!
The second One Act is called “Hero Business”, and it is written and directed by Mount senior Hope Munson. Hope herself is a published author of 2 books, and this show is a loose parody of her book, “Queen’s Arrow”! Instead of the heroes falling into the magical world of Tarani by a portal, they are hired for the positions in a job interview, and the show covers this entertaining sequence of events.
The third One Act is “How Did We Get Here? Where Do We Go?” which is written by student Olivia Drumbore and directed by students Olivia Drumbore and Elliot Rhodes. The show is about a group of four teenagers who wake up in a strange room with no memory of where they were before. The group has to try to find a way out of the room while staying safe. All will be revealed in the show!
The fourth One Act is called “Waiting For Lucy”, which will be directed by student Carly Hubbard, who is a senior at Mount. She says that this one act will be the silliest of all the shows this year. It focuses on a bunch of love triangles and how they get worked out!
The fifth One Act is “Fearful Symmetry”, which is being directed by Mount senior Rain Wheeler! “Fearful Symmetry” is a thrilling show in which a mysterious stranger offers a teenage girl a deal that she can’t pass up. Watch the story unfold in four different places simultaneously as four versions of the girl must find out how to handle the consequences that follow.
All of the One Acts this year sound fascinating, and it is an exciting series of performances to look forward to! To see the full cast lists and keep up on information about Mount Drama, check out their Instagram page @mphsdrama.
