Mount Pleasant High School hosted its first Culture Night on Thursday, October 26th.
Students, teachers, and administrators came together to showcase their cultures, religious identities, subcultures, and cultural groups. Attendees crowded into the Mount Pleasant student center and cafeteria, eager to learn about the various cultures that surround them every day.
Ms. Mobley’s French class was one example of the many staff and student volunteers who presented information they researched on French-speaking countries during class. Visitors could see, hear, and taste cultural items from different booths, like at the Italian culture table, which had 3 different meatball samples. Tasters could vote on their favorite meatball recipe to add another layer of fun.
There were also cultural performances and games, like bracelet making from the Cowgirl Culture booth, the Philippines Tinikling dance, and the “Hare Krishna Hare Rama” song.
Additional culture booths included henna, art displayed, ASL booth, skateboard culture, sneaker culture, Irish culture, steel drums, Blue & Gold, GSA, and BSU clubs. Thank you to Ms. Pritchett, Mr. Hines, Mr. Bean, Ms. Mullin, Ms. Brown, Ms. Herskowitz, Ms. Schweiger, Ms. Jenkins, Ms. Thomas, Ms. Capone, and all the volunteers for helping to make this event possible! We’re excited for what is to come for next year’s Culture Night, hoping for more participants and more people ready to learn.
