At 9 AM on the morning of October 19th, the Mount Pleasant marching band held their annual parade for this year’s Homecoming. It began at Little Mount, and the band traveled all the way to Mount Pleasant High School! Here they performed their show, Protest. Marching alongside them were the JROTC cadets. A red firetruck and members of the Homecoming Court were also a part of the parade, with Homecoming Court members choosing to walk or stick their heads out of the roofs of their cars, while wearing their sashes.
At 12 PM, Mount students wearing pink and black gathered in the football stadium to support our football team in their game against Red Lion. The bleachers and parking lot were packed long before the game even started. The stands right behind the scoreboard had concessions and Mount merchandise that anyone could buy throughout the whole game. The cheerleaders were dressed in all pink as well, and did various different dances to support our team.
At the end of the first quarter, Mount and Red Lion were tied at 7-7! Marching Band kicked off halftime with a show, while the members of our homecoming court strolled across the field accompanied by their loved ones. The announcer, Mr. Sutton gave fun facts about the members of court, including their plans for college and the future. Then, he announced the winners for Homecoming Queen and King: Sarriah Brison and Sean Bourgeois! The cheerleaders, football players and student spectators all cheered as the queen and king received their crowns. However, in the end Mount suffered a tough loss against the Red Lions with a final score 7-49 despite our best efforts.
Nonetheless, the cheerful Mount spirit reemerged later on in the day as everyone got ready in their dresses and suits for the homecoming dance, which took place in the gym, student center and cafeteria from 7 to 10 PM. The dance offered different types of food such as pizza, desserts, snacks, and drinks that were located in the cafe, where most people ended up at the beginning of the dance. In the gym, there were colored lights, a DJ, and fairy lights lit on the bleachers to set the mood for the dance. The maximum amount of tickets (500) were sold and so the dance floor was packed with students dancing to songs such as FE!N, Boy’s a liar Pt. 2, Sicko Mode, Cotton Eye Joe, Cha Cha Slide and many more popular songs. The student center was also decorated with tables, and centerpieces on them as well as a wall decorated in balloons to be a photo background. Despite the football loss, the entire day was bright, cheerful, and consumed with school spirit!
